Rs 770 million in royalties collected from spring mountaineering

Kathmandu, May 12: Nepal has collected over Rs 770 million in royalties from mountaineering expeditions during this year’s spring climbing season. According to the Department of Tourism, a total of Rs 773,587,915 has been collected in royalties as of Sunday.

Mount Everest alone generated Rs 676,009,028 in royalties. In total, 1,127 climbers—240 women and 887 men—from 119 expedition teams have received permits to climb 26 different peaks, including the world’s highest, Mount Everest.

Department Director Leeladhar Awasthi stated that Everest saw the highest number of climbers, with 456 climbers (84 women and 372 men) from 45 teams receiving permits. Climbers from 57 countries have come to attempt Everest this season.

Other popular peaks this season include Ama Dablam with 102 climbers from 10 teams, Lhotse with 107 climbers from 9 teams, Makalu with 79 climbers from 8 teams, Kangchenjunga with 75 climbers from 7 teams, Nuptse with 76 climbers from 6 teams, and Annapurna with 66 climbers from 6 teams.

Spring is considered the most favorable season for climbing in Nepal, particularly for Mount Everest. With climbing permits still being issued, the number of climbers is expected to rise further. #nepal #mountain #everest #expedition
