Kathmandu, Dec 26: Prime Minister Sushila Karki is set to appoint former Nepal Army General Bala Nanda Sharma as Minister for Foreign Affairs. According to sources, Mr. Sharma will take the oath of office and secrecy later today.
With only 69 days remaining until the election scheduled for March 5, 2026 (Falgun 21), Sushila Karki led government is proceeding with the expansion of the Council of Ministers. Although the government claims it is fully focused on the election, the process of cabinet expansion continues.
Observers say that Bala Nanda Sharma, who is about to be appointed as Foreign Minister, is an experienced and straightforward individual.
Who is Sharma?
Lt Gen (Retd) Bala Nanda Sharma served in Nepal Army for 39 years. During his service, he held many appointments in the Army – Command, Staff and instructional. He had been instructor in Army Training School and Commandant at Army Command and Staff College.
Gen Sharma worked for international peace for more than 4 years. He worked as a Force Commander of the UN forces in the Golan Heights. He is a resource person to the UN and engages on peace related activities when called upon. He also worked for national peace and reconciliation within Nepal.
He played a key role in the rehabilitation and integration of Maoist Army Combatants in the society and the national Army of Nepal. Currently he visits various conflict affected countries and renders his advices and shares his experiences. #nepal #conflict #MoFA
