Kathmandu, June 6: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the parliamentary obstruction will likely be resolved within a few days.
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament premises on Friday, he mentioned that progress has been made gradually following a meeting held at Baluwatar. He stated that if the government commits to a credible investigation, the obstruction in the parliament could be lifted. While the ruling party appears to agree on launching an investigation, there has been no consensus on whether to form a parliamentary investigation committee, to have it led by a former judge, or to adopt another approach.
Prachanda said, “After our meeting at Baluwatar (PM residence) the other day, efforts are underway to gradually create a conducive environment. The key issue is investigation. The opposition has expressed that if the government commits to a credible investigation, the matter could be resolved positively. Recently, there have also been discussions with NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Gyanendra Karki, Shyam Ghimire, and others. There was an agreement not to conduct today’s House session but to put up a notice instead. I believe a positive resolution will be reached within a day or two. The ruling party seems ready for an investigation. However, there is still no agreement on whether to form a probe committee, have it led by a former judge, or take some other route.”
Prachanda further mentioned that since an investigation into the visit visa case has already been initiated by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the ruling party argues that forming a separate committee before a case is formally filed under special jurisdiction might not be appropriate.
Meanwhile, today’s meeting of the House of Representatives could not take place. The House Secretariat issued a notice not to convene today’s meeting and postponed for Sunday. #nepal #prachanda #House #parliament
