Kathmandu, Nov 9: The final hearing of the case against Sandeep Lamichhane, the spinner of the national cricket team, is going on today. The hearing has been assigned in the bench of justice Keshav Prasad Ghimire of the Kathmandu District Court.
Even though the Supreme Court had ordered for early decision, the hearing of the case is being delayed on various pretexts. Earlier, the joint bench of Supreme Court Judges Sapana Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal gave permission to Sandeep Lamichhane to go abroad and ordered the district court to follow the process of fast track and continuous hearing. Even after the completion of 8 months of the order, the district court has not been able to conduct the final argument.
Earlier, Sandeep had withdrawn his name from the national team citing delay in the hearing. At the request of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) officials, he was later returned to the team for the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. Sandeep remains one of the star player of the Nepali cricket team.
Sandeep have been alleged a rape charge of a minor. However, the defense lawyer from Sandeep argue that the girl was not of a minor.
