Sandeep not included in Nepali cricket team

Kathmandu, Feb 23: Cricketeer Sandeep Lamichhane was not included in the Nepali squad to the ICC World Cup League 2 match to be played in UAE. Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has placed Pratis GC in place of Sandeep Lamichhane in the list of players going to UAE.

Sources said that Sandeep’s name was not included due to legal hurdles.

Nepal is playing against UAE and Papua New Guinea from 27 February to 6 March under League 2. The Nepali team will play the first match against Papua New Guinea on the 27th February. Nepali team will leave for UAE on 25th February.

The case of Sandeep Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a minor, is pending in the district court in Kathmandu. After the High Court Patan released him on bail, CAN kept him in the team for the matches against Scotland and Namibia at home.

The High Court had mentioned that Sandeep will not be allowed to go abroad while ordering his release on bail.

In the recently concluded Tri-nation ODI Series, Sandeep performed exceptionally well and Nepal also won all four matches played against Namibia and Scotland.
