Kathmandu, April 18: Santoshi Shrestha of Dhading and Rajan Rokaya of Tribhuvan Army Club have won the Kantipur Half Marathon title in the female and male category respectively.
Shrestha won the women’s title in the 21.1-kilometer half marathon organized by Kantipur Media Group (KMG) here today. Shrestha won the race in 1 hour 18:11 minutes.
Nisha Pal of the Army came second in 1 hour 18:26 minutes and Purnalakshmi Neupane, also of the Army came third in 1 hour 23:13 seconds.
Likewise, Rokaya won the men’s title completing the distance in one hour and 4:03 minutes. Army players dominated the top three in the men’s category. Arjun Budha finished second in one hour and 6:04 minutes, while Sushil Shahi finished third in one hour and 6:5 minutes.
Nirmala KC of the Army came fourth in 1 hour 25:54 minutes, Fulmati Rana of the APF came fifth in 1 hour 28:43 minutes and Sonsari Rokaya came sixth in 1 hour 32:03 seconds.
The winners of the half marathon in both men’s and women’s categories were awarded Rs 150,000 in cash and a trophy each. Those who finished second to sixth in the half marathon received Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The half marathon, which started in front of Kantipur Television’s office, Tinkune, passed through Koteshwor, Jadibuti, Lokanthali, Gatthaghar, Thimi, Sallaghari and ended at Jagati Chowk.
Similarly, Ramesh Khatri and Aishwarya Kumari Kumal emerged as the winners of the wheelchair 5-kilometer race. Khatri came first in the men’s category in 9 minutes 29:22 seconds. Similarly, Deepak Ale Magar came second in 11 minutes 06:02 seconds and Ramkaji Mijar came third in 11 minutes 57:05 seconds.
In the women’s category, Kumal from Achham finished first in 12 minutes 26:99 seconds. Yami Jhakrimagaar from Pyuthan came second in 13 minutes 30:63 seconds and Rajani Rai from Khotang came third in 15 minutes 50:08 seconds.
The winners of the wheelchair race received Rs 35,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 cash respectively. The marathon, held under the slogan ‘Run for Nepal’, was inaugurated by famed athlete Baikuntha Manandhar. #nepal #rss
