In an event organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday, EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo handed over the tent to Save the Children Nepal to be distributed to earthquake victims.
Speaking at the hand over event, Heather Campbell, National Director of Save the Children, said that tents will be distributed as temporary housing for the protection of the lives of children, pregnant women, senior citizens and disabled people who were affected by the earthquake.
Ms Heather said, “Due to the devastating earthquake, children, pregnant women, senior citizens and people with disabilities were particularly affected more than other people. Many people have died due to extreme cold in the earthquake affected area. It is imperative to ensure the protection of the most affected households and marginalized communities there.”
Likewise, Ambassador of European Union to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo has said, “Eight hundred winter tents will go a long way to assist some of the most vulnerable families affected by the earthquake in Jajarkot and Rukum West and keep them warm and safe from the winter that is setting in quickly.”
It has also been informed that the tents will be delivered to the affected areas in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and arrangements will be made to distribute them in coordination with local bodies. According to EU, the tent will have 3 rooms and it will provide protection to avoid the cold. There is also a stove for cooking in the tent.
