KATHMANDU: Hearing on habeas corpus cases has started in the Supreme Court today. The hearing is taking place in nine benches. In a week, the hearing on habeas corpus case had taken place on Monday.
But on Tuesday, haring even on the detainee case was not possible.
Chief Justice Cholendra Shumser JB Rana had scheduled benches to hear the habeas corpus cases.
Six of them are division and two are single, according to SC Spokesperson Baburam Dahal. It may be noted that judges at the SC had refused joining the hearing session since Monday afternoon putting forth various demands.
The hearing had remained completely affected since October 25. The disruption in the hearing procedures has affected service seekers arrived from far flung parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Bar Association has continued it’s protest program against the Supreme Court Chief Justice in front of Bar Association Head Office today as well. The NBA is demanding Chief Justice to step down from his post.
DLA insists on protection of judiciary’s glorious history
Nepal Democratic Lawyer’s Association (DLA) has called on all aware community to stand for people’s right to justice and for independent judiciary.
Issuing a press statement today, Association general secretary Laxmidevi Dahal appealed to the entire aware community for standing for people’s right to justice guaranteed by the Constitution and for the protection of independent judiciary.
“To date, the prestige and image of our judiciary and faith on it is glorious in the international arena and let’s unite for finding an easy outlet to the existing deadlock and for keeping this glorious history intact,” the Association stressed.
Similarly, the Association has sought the prompt implementation of a study report about the control of influence of middle persons so as to end misconducts and corruption in the judiciary. It has appealed to all bodies concerned to contribute for enhancing the dignity of judiciary.
