Kathmandu, Nov 20: A meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) has decided to recommend to the Government of Nepal (Council of Ministers) to mobilize the Nepal Army in accordance with Article 266(1) of the Constitution.
The recommendation aims to ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives general election, scheduled for March 5, 2026 (Falgun 21), is conducted in a free, fair environment. As per the constitution, now, the government will recommend to the President for the army mobilization.
In most of the election times, Nepal Army provides overall security and logistical deliveries. However, the present government is considering to mobilize army personnel even for the security of election centers or election booths.
The NSC has also approved, with necessary revisions, the draft of its 8th Annual Report (FY 2081/82).
The meeting, held on Thursday at Singha Durbar, decided to submit the revised draft to President Ram Chandra Paudel as per Article 266(3) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki chaired the meeting. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Chief of Nepal Army, Chief Secretary, among others were present in the meeting. #nepal #NSC #election
