Shun racial discrimination to make equitable society: President Paudel

Kathmandu, June 3: President Ram Chandra Paudel has underlined the need to wipe out racial discrimination and untouchability so that an equitable society could be built.

Extending a message of best wishes on the occasion of the National Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability today, President Paudel viewed racial discrimination and untouchability was sheer hindrance to national prosperity. He wished the Day inspired all to be active for ending the wrong practices.

The President also wished peace, prosperity and happiness to all Nepalis on this occasion.

“The traditional and social thoughts, style and customs need positive change which fosters unity, harmony and goodwill among people from multiple communities,” he reminded, expressing worry that economic disparity, conservative thoughts, backwardness, and ignorance were behind the racial discrimination and untouchability.

Racial discrimination is a social and moral blot, it is a crime. President Paudel urged all concerned including three tiers of government, political parties, civil society, and media to be sensitive towards fully eliminating racial discrimination and untouchability.

Nepal was declared a country free of racial discrimination and untouchability on Jestha 21, 2066BS.

Dalit community deserves compensation with prior rights: PM Dahal

Likewise, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has appealed to all concerned bodies of the State to effectively implement the laws and policies to eliminate racial discrimination and untouchability.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the National Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability today, PM Dahal reminded that all three tiers of government must be responsible to enforce the necessary laws. “I make special appeal to all governments to include Dalit empowerment programmes in their policy, programmes  and budgets and enforce laws against discrimination,” PM Dahal underlined in the message.

The PM reminded that Dalit communities deserve prior rights to compensation and they be ensured their socioeconomic and cultural rights without any hindrances. The Head of the government reminded that State has a policy of positive discrimination. Even a scheme to form a Dalit development authority was launched in the government policies and programmes.

Even the Dalit campaign should continue overseeing State activities so that their struggle for justice could be realized soon. #nepal #dalit #untouchability
