Six bodies retrieved, five missing in Achham flood



Achham: Bodies of six out of the 17 people, who had gone missing in the flooded Kailashkhola stream of Achham, have been found.

Identity of three retrieved bodies has been ascertained while five are still missing in the disaster.

The flood occurred last night. Police established the identity of Roshan Saud, 15, of Ramaroshan-5 from Achham; Gauri Shah, 33, and Chandra Saud, 48, both residing in the same locality. Identity of the others retrieved bodies is awaited.

Chief District Officer of Achham district, Gokarna Prasad Upadhyay, said the bodies of people swept away by the flood at Saini bazaar of Ramaroshan Rural Municipality have been found downstream at a place two hours away.

“The flood washed away 30 shops and 17 people at Saini bazaar. The search and rescue team has retrieved bodies from the downstream. Problem is there that the river is still flooded,” he said.

Nepal Army’s AI-17 helicopter has been mobilised for searching for the missing persons, brigade chief at Shree No 5 Brigade Office Dipayal Rajpur, Brigadier General Homnath Dawadi said.

A team comprising Achham CDO Upadhyay, Chief of the Nepal Army’s Bhawani Baks Battalion, Lochan Karki, and Deputy Superintendent Yogendra Singh Thapa of the District Police Office is mobilising in the search and rescue.

Six bodies of the victims were found at Darna of Bannigadhi Jayagadh Rural Municipality-6 and at Lamtada and Seri of Mangalsen Municipality-3, the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office Dipayal said.
