Snowfall in high hilly region, disrupts vehicular movement, likely of more rain

KATHMANDU: Heavy snowfall taking place at different high hill regions across Nepal. The snowfall has disrupted vehicular movement as well.

The Simbhanjyang and Aghor areas of Tribhuvan Highway since last night has obstructed vehicular movement from 2:00 am this morning, the Area Police Office in Palung said.

Mayor of Thaha Municipality Labsher Bista said it was difficult to clear the snow as the areas witnessed heavy snowfall coupled with rain. The vehicles heading to Kathmandu from Hetauda are stranded at Aghor area of Tribhuvan Highway.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of District Police Office, Makawanpur, Jayashwor Rimal said preparations are on to resume the transport till this afternoon if the weather improved.

Heavy snowfall disrupts two highways in Sudurpaschim

The Bhimdutta Highway that connects seven hilly districts of the Sudurpaschim Province is obstructed following a heavy snowfall taken place from Thursday night.

Area Police Office at Budar confirmed that the snowfall taking place since last night has disrupted vehicular movement here and efforts are ongoing to clear the snow.

Dozens of vehicles and a large number of passengers travelling in the vehicles are stranded at Gaira and Budar areas in Doti. Sahukharka, Gaira, Hagulte and the vicinity are blanketed with snow in the district.

Likewise, Pahalmansingh Swar Highway from Silgadhi of Doti to Sanfe of Achham district is also obstructed due to snowfall. Vehicles heading to Bajura and Achham districts from Tarai and to Tarai from hilly districts are stranded at different points after a heavy snowfall in Chaukhutte area.

The snowfall has badly affected people’s lives here as they have faced difficulties to move outside home.

Khaptad, Goladeu, Napani, Charkekolek, Badikedarthan, Alyadi, Chauribaj, Okharkhali, Mustal and other areas in the region have witnessed heavy snowfall from Thursday, it is said.

Westerly low pressure system likely to affect weather till next few days

The Westerly low pressure system is likely to influence the weather till the next few days, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

Today, it is generally to fully cloudy throughout the country with chances of light to moderate rain in many parts.

The impact of the Westerly low pressure system is likely to trigger light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning/gusty winds/ hailstone at many parts of the country. Cold is likely to further increase due to winter rains and the Division has urged one and all to take precautions against adverse weather.

Tonight there will be generally to mostly cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning/gusty winds/ hail is possible at many places of Province 1, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province and light rain is possible at a few places of Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudur Paschim Province.
Chances remain for light to moderate snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region.

On Friday, there are chances for light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning/gusty winds/ hail at many parts with generally to mostly cloudy throughout the country.

Presently, light to moderate snowfall is taking place at many places of the high-hills and the mountainous region.

On Saturday, there will be partly to generally cloudy in the Province 1, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province while it will be partially cloudy in remaining provinces. Light snowfall has been forecast at few places of the high-hills of the eastern and central parts of the country and the mountainous region.
