Social activist Sapkota’s final rites performed

CHITWAN: The final rites of noted social activist and freedom fighter Tilak Prasad Sapkota have been performed this afternoon on the bank of Narayani River as per the Hindu traditions.

Sapkota, a leading personality in the political and social spheres from Gaindakot Municipality-8 of Nawalparasi district, died on November 9. He was 79.

Nepali Congress leader Dr Shashank Koirala draped party’s flag and Democracy Association’s President Tanka Prasad Sharma Kandel draped Association’s flag on late Sapkota’s body to pay tribute to him.

Chief of Gandaki Province Prithvi Man Gurung, Tourism Minister of Gandaki Province Mani Bhadra Kandel, Nepali Congress Nawalparasi district committee president Mahendra Dhwoj GC, party cadres and a large number of well-wishers were present during the last rites of Sapkota.

Late Sapkota’s sons Bishwa Prakash, Keshav Prakash, Chudamani, Krishna, Narayan, Kulraj and Bijaya lit the funeral pyre. Sapkota leaves behind two wives, seven sons and four daughters.

As some of his children were out of the country, the funeral rites were delayed for two days. Sapkota had been suffering from asthma for the past three years.

The late Sapkota was born on Magh 17, 2001 B.S. in Baglung. RSS
