KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has snubbed to implement a recommendation made by opposition CPN (UML) to sack its 14 Members of Parliament (MPs) including former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
House of Representatives (HoR) Secretary Gopalnath Yogi said that the Speaker took a decision not to make further action against the recommendation, arguing that the Election Commission on August 27 wrote to the Federal Parliament Secretariat regarding the registration of a new political party named CPN (Unified Socialist).
“Decision not to take any action has been taken from the Speaker based on the Political Party Act and in context of the registration of a new political party,” Yogi added.
Earlier, the CPN (UML) had registered a letter in the Federal Parliament Secretariat, stating that the party booked 14 MPs.
The UML had decided to sack the MPs and from the party membership as well on charge of breaching party whip by boycotting the House meeting when the then PM KP Sharma Oli was seeking vote of confidence from the Parliament on May 10.
With the decision of the Speaker, the post of MPs of leader Nepal, Jibanram Shrestha, Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Kalyani Khadka, Laxmi Kumari Chaudhari, Nira Devi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karna Kayastha, Sarala Kumari Yadav, Kalila Khatun, Birodh Khatiwada, Krishna Lal Maharjan, Bhawani Khapung and Metmani Chaudhary is protected.
