Stakeholders demand for Nepal Orthopedic Hospital to turn into medical institution



Kathmandu, Aug 14: The Nepal Orthopedic Hospital (NOH), a non-profit social organization, operating in the premises of Nepal Disabled Association (NDA) in Jorpati, Kathmandu has completed 26 years of its establishment.

The NOH was established in 1998 in cooperation with Rotary International under the Khagendra New Life Centre (Khagendra Nawajeevan Kentra), especially dedicated to the services of orphans, helpless and disabled people.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the hospital, fruits were distributed to the patients undergoing treatment in the hospital and free outpatient service (OPD) was provided.

Likewise, a public program was also organized at the hospital premises on Tuesday afternoon. On the occasion, Mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality, Deepak Kumar Risal, expressed the commitment of the municipality to fully support the hospital, which has been providing efficient management and excellent treatment services, to increase its capacity as an exemplary health center.

He informed that education and health are the main priorities of the municipality and said that 42,000 citizens of the municipality area are covered by health insurance, and they can take ortho-related speciality services from NOH.

Dr. Kailash Kumar Bhandari, the medical director of the hospital, while giving information about the services available from the hospital, said that the hospital is working to provide more comfortable and accessible services to the citizens. He said, “We have been able to get the hospital listed in the health insurance program this time. The hospital has been conducting health camps at least four times a year in remote areas to provide free orthopedic surgery to citizens who are deprived of getting medical facilities.”

According to director Bhandari, there are currently 20 specialist doctors working in the hospital which has 100 beds. Dr. Pramod Bahadhur Shrestha, a member of the hospital management committee, said that this hospital should be developed as a medical teaching institution for orthopedic treatment in the country.

The Chairman of the hospital, Mr Samden Lama, the Ward Chair of Gokarneshawar municipality-6 Mr Navraj Lama, another Ward Chair of ward no. 5 Mr Narayan Bahadur Subedi, the president of the employee union, Alok Jha, suggested to transform the hospital into an educational institution. #NOH #hospital #orthopedic

 

Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH) was established in the premises of the Nepal Disabled Association (NDA) at the Khagendra New Life Centre in Jorpati in Kathmandu in August 1998.Its sole intention has been to provide quality orthopaedic care, at an affordable price, of which most Nepalese have been deprived.

Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital was established to ensure and fulfill the need for quality orthopaedic care to the people of this country with the 100 beds. Affordability and accessibility in health care is important aspects in health care delivery. Majority of people of Nepal are poor having low living standards with less paying capacity. As per constitution of Nepal health care services is fundamental right of citizen of Nepal, despite health care service deliveries are out of pocket in our country. Prompt care is inaccessible to public at government-based hospitals of country. Health Insurance programme is at primitive condition.  The majority of Nepalese People are not able to afford the high cost of modern orthopaedic surgery and treatment. High end technologies are available at private owned hospitals which are beyond capacity of majority of people of country. Realizing the fact through the tireless efforts of various individuals and organizations, this dream of opening an affordable orthopaedic center, which provides quality service for Nepalese, was conceived and achieved.
