Statue of Bhirkuti unveiled at Nepal Consulate in Lhasa



Kathmandu, April 28: An armless statue of national icon Bhirkuti has been unveiled at the Consulate General Office of Nepal in Lhasa, China. The statue was unveiled during a programme held on Saturday, according to the consulate office.

While unveiling the statue, Consul General Laxmi Prasad Niraula highlighted that Princess Bhirkuti, who married Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century, played a significant role in establishing and strengthening Nepal–China relations. He also noted her contribution to the introduction and promotion of Buddhism in China, as well as her role in the planned development of Lhasa.

During the event, speakers including Kunjyo Dharke Nepali, Chairperson of the Nepal Relief Welfare Fund, and officials from the JV Foundation Nepal shared their views.

A notable presence of the Nepali community in Lhasa was reported at the programme. Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to individuals and organisations who contributed to transporting and installing the statue, including representatives of the Nepal Relief Welfare Fund.

The statue was provided by JV Foundation Nepal. Earlier, Foundation Chairman Jagdish Vaidya had formally handed it over to Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai in Kathmandu, the consulate stated. #Nepal
