Tikapur, June 11: Rainfall coupled with storm damaged banana plants grown in two bighas of land in Kailali district. Nearly 60 percent of trees perished in the storm occurred on Wednesday.
Farmer Janak Chaudhary from Kotharpur of Tikapur-2 was readying to harvest the fruit after two months but the adversity took a toll on it. The loss amounted to some Rs 1.4 million.
Similarly, Krit Thakulla from Satti of Tikapur-7 recorded damages of fruit farm. Nearly 100 banana trees were damaged by the storm in his estate.
Thakulla has done banana farming in four bighas of land this year. “We suffered much loss due to hostile weather,” he added.
Another farmer Sher Bahadur Saud shared similar plight of loss in fruit farming. “Hundreds of farmers like me are worrying over the loss. I’ve not even counted the banana trees collapsed in the farm. The farmers are bearing the loss at a time when they are planning the harvest soon.”
Chief of agriculture section at Tikapur Municipality, Moti Singh BK, informed that local government began collecting data on damages of banana plants at ward level. “We’ve received calls from farmers about the loss,” he added. #nepal #rss
