Supreme Court recovers 10,000 burnt case files

Kathmandu, Jan 6: More than 10 thousand case files that were burnt during arson incident on September 9, 2025 at the Supreme Court have been recovered.

Out of a total of 24,000 case files at the Supreme Court, around 20,000 were destroyed in a fire that broke out on September 9 during the Gen Z movement. Only 4,000 files were saved from the fire.

According to Supreme Court spokesperson Nirajan Pandey, as of January 4, 2026, files of 10,340 burnt cases have been recovered so far with the help of service recipients, institutions, and the Office of the Attorney General.

The Supreme Court had requested the Office of the Attorney General, the Nepal Bar Association, and the concerned parties of the cases to provide copies of the burnt case files. Accordingly, the process of collecting and compiling the case files is currently ongoing. #court #genz #nepal
