Supreme Court scraps writ against appointment of Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu, Aug 15: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed against the appointment and oath of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The apex court’s Constitutional Bench comprising of Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Justices Prakashman Singh Raut, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Kumar Regmi  unanimously scrapped the writ petition.

Three separate writs were registered in the bench claiming that the wrong article was used in the appointment of Oli as the Prime Minister.

The single bench of Judge Balkrishna Dhakal, while conducting the first hearing on the said writ, decided to send it to the constitutional bench.

Khagendra Chapagain, Shailendra Gupta and Deepak Adhikari registered writ petitions in the Supreme Court on Ashad 31, 2081 BS, saying that the appointment made by President Ramchandra Paudel according to Article 76( 2 ) of the Constitution of Nepal is illegal.
