Talks between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli have ended. Prime Minister Deuba returned to Baluwatar from Balkot at 10:15 pm. PM Deuba did not respond while leaving Balkot.
After a meeting of the ruling coalition in Baluwatar on Thursday evening failed to reach an agreement on the US aid program Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Prime Minister Deuba had reached Oli’s residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur to meet UML Chairman Oli.
Prime Minister Deuba is preparing to table the MCC in tomorrow’s meeting of the House of Representatives amid disagreements between the ruling parties, but the MCC has not been included in the agenda drawn up by the Parliament Secretariat on Friday. But a meeting of the Parliamentary Business Committee has been called for tomorrow.
After nearly two-hour discussion between the two leaders, UML Chairman Oli also did not respond. After the talks between the two leaders, many journalists had reached Balkot, Bhaktapur.
The ruling CPN (Maoist Center), the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have stated that the MCC should not be passed in the current situation. That is why today’s meeting of the ruling party ended without any conclusion.
According to sources, Prime Minister Deuba is ready to take any “political step” to get MCC in the House.
It seems that PM Deuba is trying to persuade the CPN UML leadership to pass the MCC in the parliament. A meeting of the five-party alliance is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow. If the parties fail to reach on consensus, the coalition government under Deuba will be dissolved, and PM Deuba will lead a single government with the support of the CPN UML.
