MELAMCHI: The Tatopani border checkpoint will be closed for 20 days from Thursday. According to the Tatopani Customs Office, the Chinese side has informed that the checkpoint will be closed from tomorrow (January 21) to rebuild the Miteri Bridge on the border.

Chief of Tatopani Customs, Lal Bahadur Khatri, said that the checkpoint would remain closed for 20 days at most for the reconstruction of the bridge damaged by the floods. He said the Chinese side was repairing a section of the bridge that had been damaged by the previous floods.

He informed that the goods on the way were brought to Nepal before the checkpoint was closed for bridge maintenance. Khatri also said that there was no cargo vehicle on the way to Tatopani route.

Tatopani border checkpoint was the most important trade route between Nepal and China before the April 25, 2015 Gorkha earthquake.
