Kathmandu: The Town Development Fund (TDF) has put forth a plan to expand electric bus service in the Kathmandu Valley in coordination with concerned government agencies as part of the Sustainable City Transport Programme.
As informed, TDF has a plan to gradually replicate this programme in other big cities.
At a workshop ‘Tomorrow’s City’ organized in the capital on Thursday, Chief Executive Officer of TDF, Krishna Sapkota said the Fund would also extend support to the City Infrastructure Development Programme.
It is anticipated that the TDF support to electric bus service would also be a contribution to improve environment in the capital city Sharing that various programmes have been in operation in 88 municipalities across the country, he said TDF has been extending its support to different municipalities in the areas of good governance, institutional capacity building, drinking water infrastructures and sanitation.
Also at the programme, Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Anil Pokharel shared that necessary assistance had been provided to different municipalities for disaster risk reduction.
City Planning expert of UKAid, Saroj Basnet said there was a demand of technical support for conservation of heritages in cities.
Currently the UKAid is implementing programmes in Pokhara metropolis, Janakpur and Butwal municipalities.
The workshop was jointly organized by Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering, TU Central Department of Geography, NSET, South Asia Institute of Advanced Studies and Practical Action South Asia office.
