The Stripped Rights: Kashmir’s Story



For 4 years, the Kashmiri people have endured a bleak existence following the revocation of their autonomy and the oppressive measures implemented by the Indian government. The suspension of democratic processes has left them voiceless their aspirations for self determination crushed. The heavy handed military approach employed by the government has only fueled the cycle of violence, casting about on its ability to achieve lasting peace.

Abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A :

The Abrogation of article 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution results in the dismemberment of the state of Indian occupied Kashmir into two union territories.

Longest Curfew & E-Curfew in IOJK:

Jammu and Kashmir endured a 1 year, 6 months and 1 day complete lockdown, including a social, economic, political, communication and e-curfew from August 5, 2019 to February 5, 2021.

New Domicile Law:

Induction of the domicile certificate in Jammu and Kashmir paves the way for settler colonalism and demographic change extending residency benefits to non permanent residents.

Aadhar and JK Family ID:

These databases enable India’s extensive surveillance apparatus in the occupied region facilitating control and potential prosecution of pro-résistance individuals.

Unlawful Activities Prevention Act(UAPA) :

The UAPA is used to suppress dissent, targeting journalist, social media users and, even innocent individuals raise their voices against human rights violations.

Repression and Cultural Impact:

Under the guise of investment from Indian and multinational corporations the local cultural heritage and socio-economic structures, are threatened.
Siege, Search Operations, and Property Seizures:

Ongoing siege, and search operations and restrictions on movement undermine basic rights and create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the Kashmiri population.

Property Vandalism:

State investigative Agencie’s size and destruction of private private property, including homes and valuable possessions, impose collective punishment on the kashmiri people. Over 110,498 Private properties have been destroyed IOK since 1989, with 657 homes burned down in 2020, 130 in 2021 and 196 in 2022.

Misuse of Global Alliance:

India used the presidency of G20 and organized 2 events internationally disputed territory against all International norms.

Infringements of Religious Rights:

Eid prayers denied, Friday prayers denied and Muslim girls asked not to wear Abaya or head scarf.
