TU holds 49th Convocation with participation of 12,415 graduates



Kathmandu, Dec 18: The 49th Convocation Ceremony of Tribhuvan University was held today at local Dashrath Stadium. A total of 12,415 graduates from various disciplines took part in the event held in the presence of President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Though a total of 74,749 graduates (Bachelor’s, Master’s, MPhil and PhD degrees) were in the TU’s grace list for the participations in the Convocation, a total of 12,415: 8,098 towards the Bachelor’s degree, 4,104 towards the Master’s degree, 44 towards MPhil and 112 under the PhD applied for it.

Speaking on the occasion, TU acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shivalal Bhusal said TU graduates under various levels from different faculties, who were passed out from mid-June 2022 to mid-May, 2023 were eligible for taking part in the 49th Convocation.

The previous Convocation witnessed the participations of 10,300 students. Citing challenges to encourage TU graduates to seek career within the country, he pledged to promote entrepreneurship from the academic intervention.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that to address the challenges of the globalized world market of the 21st century, the will and determination of qualitative improvement in Tribhuvan University is necessary.

Addressing the 49th convocation ceremony of Tribhuvan University today, Prime Minister and Chancellor Dahal said, “Since the pressure of the globalized world seems to be out of control for us for the time being, it is necessary to review where we have gone wrong in producing competitive manpower for the global market and why the strong public trust and confidence earned by the university in the past is weakening. He said it happened.”

“Why is the role of academics working in the university not being fulfilled? Who is to blame for not being able to implement the academic calendar in the universities, and for the occasional interruptions in teaching?”, Prime Minister Dahal questioned.

He said that on one hand we should not have political participation in universities, universities should be autonomous academic bodies, on the other hand we are running for political participation and involvement, saying that education should be for the life of the individual, the progress of the nation and the progress of the society as a whole and everyone should have the opportunity to get higher education.

Urging the leadership of the university to rise above the numerical growth and provide quality education, Prime Minister Dahal reminded that the government of Nepal is always ready to provide guardianship and support for this.

He expressed his belief that the education, knowledge and skills acquired by the students will be more useful for the society and wished the students success in fulfilling their duty towards their nation by establishing themselves as conscious and honest citizens.

Prime Minister Dahal also expressed his belief that as a result of one year’s continuous hard work and activity, most of the indicators of the economy are improving, as there is still work to be done to achieve the expected results, the sincere efforts of the government will have the creative support, cooperation and solidarity of the intellectual youth.
