Kathmandu, May 1: Senior officials of Tribhuvan University, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Deepak Aryal, Rector Dr Khadga KC, and Registrar Dr Kedar Prasad Rijal, have jointly resigned from their positions.
In a joint resignation letter, the trio stated that their decision was intended to create a conducive environment for the newly formed government to function effectively.
Rector KC said that as they are primarily academics engaged in teaching, they chose to step down from administrative roles to facilitate a smoother transition under the new administration.
The resignations come in the wake of a recently proposed ordinance that includes provisions allowing the removal of university officials. There had been speculation that the government led by Balendra Shah might revoke the appointments of senior officials if they did not resign voluntarily.
KC and Rijal were appointed on a merit basis during the tenure of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, while Aryal was appointed during the government led by KP Sharma Oli.
The development comes as the current government moves to curb party-based political influence in the education sector. Earlier, it had directed individuals holding political appointments based on party affiliation to step down as part of broader reform efforts. #Nepal
