Two children died in explosion in Panchthar



Panchthar, Aug 30: Two children who were injured in an explosion in Dandagaon village of Prangbung, Falelung Rural Municipality-5 of Panchthar have died.

Dilip Sanwa’s 11-year-old son, Dipsan, and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Prinsa, lost their lives in the blast. Another child injured in the explosion is currently receiving treatment. Pawan, the 10-year-old son of Gyan Bahadur Rai, who resides in the house of Maoist activist Aitaraj Kerung (IB), is undergoing medical care.

Following the incident, the injured children were initially taken to Panchthar Hospital but were later referred to Jhapa for further treatment. Sadly, Prinsa passed away on the way to Ilam at 10 pm on Thursday, while Dipsan died in B&C Hospital in Jhapa at 1 am today morning.

The injured child, Pawan, is currently receiving treatment at Panchthar Hospital, and his condition is stable, according to the police.

The District Police Office in Panchthar mentioned that the children may have been injured by homemade grenades. In light of another suspicious item found at the scene, a disposal team from Nepal Army has been dispatched to determine if it poses a threat as a bomb.

Police stated that an investigation is ongoing as it remains unclear when and by whom the grenade was placed. Aitaraj, the homeowner where the explosion occurred, is known to be a Maoist activist, and Gyan Bahadur Rai’s family currently resides in the house.
