Biratnagar, August 1: Koshi Province Chief Parshuram Khapung appointed the Nepali Congress Province Parliamentary Party leader, Uddhav Thapa, as the Koshi province chief minister, on Tuesday.
In line with the Article 168 (2) of the Nepal Constitution, Province Chief Khapung appointed Thapa as the chief minister.
Province Chief Khapung also extended congratulations and best wishes to the newly-appointed chief minister Thapa.
Thapa is scheduled to take oath of office of the chief minister at 10.30 am on Wednesday.
According to sources, Thapa presented the list of 47 MPs among 93-seats Provincial House. Nepali Congress (29 MPs), CPN Maoist Centre (13), CPN Unified Socialist (4) and JSP (1) have supported Thapa.
Today itself, the Provincial Speaker from Maoist Centre had to resign to make majority in the House and to form the new government.
Earlier, the Supreme Court ordered to disqualify the Uddhav Thapa government. The Speaker had signed in favor of Thapa while forming the government which was challenged in Supreme Court.
A full bench of the apex court ruled that the process of forming the government was unethical.
