US Chargé d’Affaires Urbom pays courtesy call on Speaker Aryal

Kathmandu, June 11: US Chargé d’Affaires to Nepal, Scott Urbom, paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal on Thursday, with discussions centred on bilateral ties, democratic values, and avenues for deeper cooperation.

Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Aryal said Nepal had entered a new phase of its political journey following the successful parliamentary election of March 5, with the government committed to stability, transformation, transparency, good governance, and institutional reform.

He noted that the House of Representatives was working relentlessly to enact new legislation, strengthen oversight, foster constructive parliamentary debate, and uphold democratic values in line with citizens’ aspirations for good governance and rapid economic development.

Aryal highlighted that Nepal and the United States have enjoyed cordial relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1947, built on mutual respect and strong people-to-people connections. He noted that both nations share a commitment to democracy, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.

With the bilateral relationship entering its 80th year next year, Speaker Aryal expressed hope that the milestone would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and deepen the partnership. He also informed that efforts were underway to restructure the Nepal-US Parliamentary Friendship Group, which he said would help advance parliamentary relations, trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Speaker Aryal also expressed gratitude to the US government for its continued support to Nepal’s socioeconomic development, institutional strengthening, and human capital development, reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to reinforcing the bilateral relationship.

In response, Chargé d’Affaires Urbom reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to a friendly and cooperative relationship with Nepal, expressing interest in advancing collaboration on democratic values, good governance, economic development, and people-level engagement. #nepal
