US envoy Gor meets RSP Prez Rabi Lamichhane, discusses strengthening bilateral ties



Kathmandu, June 5: The United States and Nepal have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation following a meeting between a senior US envoy Sergio Gor and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane in New Delhi on Thursday evening.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Mr Gor said that the discussion as productive and focused on enhancing the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

The meeting explored ways to further strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on promoting prosperity and expanding opportunities for the people of both nations, said Sergio Gor who is also the US ambassador to India and US President’s Special Envoy to South and Central Asia.

“The United States values its friendship with Nepal and remains committed to working together on shared priorities that support prosperity and opportunity for both our nations,” Gor stated.

RSP President Rabi Lamichhane was in New Delhi on the invitation of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and held series of high-profile meeting, including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, BJP Chair Nitin Nabin, among others.

President Lamichhane held discussion with ambassador Gor on Thursday evening. According to sources, there was no formal program of meeting with Gor. Earlier, Ambassador Gor also held discussion with Rabi in Kathmandu as well.

In recent times, at least three senior officials visited Nepal, and sought meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah but failed. Instead, these envoys, including Sarah B. Rogers, Samir Paul Kapur and Sergio Gor, held series of discussions with Foreign Minister Sishir Khanal, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle and RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane. #nepal
