Kathmandu, Jan 18: Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, has said the energy and creative works of youths should be utilized for nation building.

She said it in her address to a concluding session of the ‘Model United Nations 4.0’ programme on Sunday. Vice Chairperson Ghimire expressed worry whether youths and their talents would be misused.

“It is time to spread positive message and energy for nation building. But there is an equal threat of misuse of youths and students to spread hatred towards political parties and leaders,” she said, underscoring the urgency of ensuring democratic rights as per youths’ aspiration.

According to her, peaceful protest is citizen’s right in democracy. The peaceful dialogue and discussion contribute to citizen awareness and state accountability. The role of youths lies here, she added.

“Campaign should be launched for reform in health, education, employment and youth empowerment. The forums like Model United Nations can be helpful for social reform. Ghimire also suggested the youths that they focused their campaigns on peace, climate change, poverty and inequality, human rights and economic justice.

The Vice Chairperson was of the view that the thought of nation building was not limited to a parliament building but in the perspective of youths. The constitution has recognized youths as the forces of change in the country, she argued.

Ghimire further said youths can exert pressure on the lawmakers to raise their voices and concern in the parliament.#nepal #rss
