Kathmandu, Jan 27: A westerly low-pressure system that entered into West Nepal this evening has brought rains and snowfall in the region.
According to Barun Paudel, a senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, rain has begun in Baitadi, Darchula, Chandhahi-Dodhara while snowfall has started in Dolpa and Humla. The system is expected to move eastward with more rain and snowfall in the western areas.
Paudel said skies will remain cloudy across the country from Wednesday morning, and Kathmandu Valley is likely to see light to moderate rain. As the system shifts toward the east, the Koshi and Madhesh provinces are likely to experience relatively less impact.
In the past hour, Darchula and Baitadi recorded 0.8 millimeters of rain. According to the weather bulletin issued by the Department this evening, tonight mostly cloudy conditions are expected in the high hilly and mountainous regions, including Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the remaining hilly and Terai regions will be partly cloudy.
There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall at many places in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and light rain or snowfall at a few places in other high hilly and Himalayan regions.
Heavy snowfall is also possible at one or two places in the Highlands of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. In addition, thunder and lightning may occur at a few places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
For Wednesday afternoon, mostly cloudy conditions are likely in the high hilly and mountainous regions, while generally cloudy skies are expected in the remaining hilly and Terai regions.
There is a chance of moderate rain and snowfall at a few places in high hilly and mountainous areas. Moderate rainfall is also expected at a few places in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Light rain is possible at a few places in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces, and at one or two places in the Terai of Koshi Province.
On Wednesday night, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly and Himalayan regions, with mainly fair weather elsewhere. There is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
On Thursday afternoon, fog and mist are likely at many places in the Terai region. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with mainly fair weather in the remaining areas.
There is a chance of light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of these provinces.
During the night, mist is likely at a few places in the Terai, and mainly fair weather is expected in most other areas, with partly cloudy conditions in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. #nepal #rss
