Wildlife insecure in mini zoo

Bhadrapur, Oct 15 : The wildlife being reared in several community forests of Jhapa in the name of mini zoo for tourist attraction is reeling under insecure state.

Security of wildlife in the zoo has been questioned when a dog killed four adult deer kept under the barbed wire at Bansbari community forest in Mechinagar-11.

The killing of endangered animals in large number at once has drawn the attention of locals, organizations pitching for animal rights, media and government.

Shambhu Rajbamshi, chair of the Bansbari community forest which obtained license from District Forest Office two years ago for keeping wildlife for tourism purpose, said the death incidence of wildlife is increasing due to lack of knowledge on rearing, treatment and feeding system.

He also shared a python and a tiger also died in the mini zoo operated in the community forest.

The frequency of wildlife death is increasing in the community forests in lack of proper conservation measures.
