Woman arrested on charge of human trafficking

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: A team of the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of the Nepal Police has arrested a woman from Chabahil in Kathmandu district on the charge of human trafficking.

Anita Sunuwar alias Anita Tamang of Sindhupalchowk district was taken under control today, according to Bureau Chief Anurag Kumar Dwivedi.

Earlier, a 43-year old man, Ganesh Kumar Lowang, of Taplejung district was nabbed in connection to the same human trafficking case.

Both of them have been accused of selling off five persons to South Africa some two years ago, luring them with lucrative jobs there.

In a complaint lodged at the police, the victims have accused that the arrested ones had also held them hostage for nearly five months and molested them.

The victims had reached out to the Nepali Embassy in South Africa for help following which they were rescued.

Upon their return to Nepal, they had filed a complaint in the Bureau which arrested them one after another, according to a press statement released by the Bureau.
