Pokhara, Aug 13: The construction of the Seti Hydropower Project with a capacity of 25 megawatts has been completed. The project lies in Sardikhola, Machapuchche Rural Municipality-2 of Kaski district. The project’s civil, hydromechanical and transmission line construction has been completed and the mechanical testing is now underway, according to the promoter Vision Lumbini Energy Company Limited.
“The construction of the project has been completed. We will test the penstock pipe on this Srawan 30,” said Jagat Bahadur Pokharel, executive chairman of Vision Lumbini Energy Company.
The company said that the trial production will start within two weeks after the “wet test” is completed. After that, the commercial production will take place. A dam has been constructed at Seti River at Bharabhari in Sardikhola, and water from the Seti will be brought through a 6,400 meter long underground pipe and dropped from a height of 187 meters to the powerhouse in Chintebagar to generate electricity. The water taken through the pipe will be pumped into two turbines of 12.5 megawatt capacity in the powerhouse. The project is based on run-off-river model.
Chairman Pokharel said that the local residents and the local government have received support for the timely completion of the project. He said that the project was built with the small investment of local residents as well. He said, “25 MW in hydropower is not a small project. Many people have joined. One thousand five hundred promoters have invested in this project. We worked round the clock to complete the project on time in a transparent manner.”
More than five billion rupees have been invested in the Seti river hydropower project. Various banks and financial institutions have invested Rs. 3.5 billion. Bam Bahadur Gurung, director of the project, said that the investment came through promoters, local residents and the IPO.
Seti River Hydropower Project has been started since the end of 2077 BS. Director Gurung said that although there were some obstacles in the work of the project due to the coronavirus epidemic, it was a success with the help of everyone. #hydro #Seti
