27-year-old Sobita set to begin parliamentary journey

Kathmandu: Sobita Gautam, who has been elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Kathmandu constituency no 2, is all set to begin the parliamentary journey.

The 27-year-old with journalism and law background, Gautam contested the general election from Rastriya Swatantra Party and emerged victorious in her maiden attempt. She defeated former Speaker and leader of CPN (Maoist Centre) Onsari Gharti Magar with a wide margin. Gharti was also the alliance candidate.

Gautam, who is originally from Jafe of Dolakha district, is currently residing in Bhaktapur district. Afoot to lawmaking forum of the country, she pledged to make utmost efforts to minimize corruption and address the basic needs of the citizens as she assumes her office officially.

Extending gratitude to the voters following her victory, Gautam also assured that she could consistently raise the issues of public concerns in the parliament.

On a different note, she commented that her party did not field any candidate in the Province Assembly election, stating that the current Province Assembly was a bit cumbersome. Regarding the ideology, she, supposedly the youngest HoR member elect, admitted that she could embrace constitutional socialism. RSS
