30 new bird species recorded in Gulmi

Gulmi, April 20: A total of 30 new bird species have been recorded in Gulmi, bringing the district’s overall bird count to 355, according to Bird Conservation Nepal.

Project Officer Shambhu Bhattarai said the newly identified species were documented during a bird count conducted in the Thaple Satyawati forest area.

The survey also confirmed the presence of the Spiny Babbler—a bird species found only in Nepal—in Resunga, Madane, and Thaple Satyawati forest areas of the district.

Other notable species recorded in the district include the Egyptian vulture, slender-billed vulture, white-rumped vulture, Himalayan griffon, golden eagle, Asian koel, crested serpent eagle, kalij pheasant, and the Himalayan monal, along with various species of owls and partridges.

The increase in recorded species highlights Gulmi’s rich biodiversity and underscores the importance of continued conservation efforts in the region. #nepal
