4,564 votes cast in NC second round of polling, counting begin from 10 pm



KATHMANDU: The second phase of voting for the post of Nepali Congress President under the 14th General Convention has concluded.

According to the party’s Central Election Committee, a total of 4,564 votes have been cast as of 9 pm this evening.

Prime Minister and incumbent party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala are vying for post in the second round of elections after none of the candidates got more than 50 per cent votes in Monday’s election.

Although the committee has published the election schedule for re-polling from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, there has been some delay in voting due to technical reasons.

According to election officials, the counting will begin from 10 pm today onwards, and the result will be published within 4 hours.

In the vote that took place yesterday, Prime Minister and incumbent NC president Deuba received 2,258 votes and his nearest rival Dr Koirala got 1,702 votes. Former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh got 371 votes, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi got 250 votes and Central Member Kalyan Gurung got 22 votes.
