Republic day is a national holiday in Nepal. First meeting of the Interim Parliament was held on May 28 2008.
That decision ended the whole history of the Shahs. The Shahs were the ones who leaded the country for over 240 years, but that changed forever.
The story behind the republic day.
There were a lot of fights going on in Nepal, as mentioned a parliament was held to calm down the situation. After making some hard decision finally a decision was made, and it was a wise one. They announced that king monarchy was no longer there. In 1991 there was an election going on after 32 years, the people were not satisfied with the Constitutional Monarchy.
There was also a civil war and many protest going on. All the political parties gathered and formed a group to protest. After many days of protesting they finally declared Nepal as a republic. Now it has been seventeen years since the protest and the civil war happened.
After there was republic in our country, there is freedom, we have our chance to speak up for ourselves and our country Nepal has developed very fast. Happy Republic day to all the Nepali people out there.
