Kathmandu, Aug 14: Millennium Challenge Account Nepal signed two major contracts under the Compact’s Electricity Transmission Project, jointly funded by the governments of Nepal and the United States.
MCC Acting Deputy Vice President for the Department of Compact Operations John Wingle, Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks, MCA-Nepal Executive Director Khadga Bisht, MCC Resident Country Director Diane Francisco, and Ministry of Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyaya joined the contract signing between MCA-Nepal, Angelique-Skipper JV, and WAIBA-SALASAR JV.
Valued at approximately $154.5 million, these contracts cover the design, installation, testing, and commissioning of 180 kilometers out of a planned total of 297 kilometers of transmission lines from Ratmate to New Damauli and New Damauli to New Butwal.

MCC Acting Deputy Vice President John Wingle congratulated implementing partners on this milestone and emphasized that the transmission lines are crucial to Nepal’s development, as they ensure the efficient flow of electricity across the country, making it affordable for Nepali households, industries, and enterprises while creating strong economic growth opportunities for Nepal both domestically and within the region.

“This milestone is more than a construction contract; it’s a tangible symbol of the United States’ enduring commitment to Nepal’s growth and prosperity,” said U.S. Embassy Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires, Jason Meeks. “Through this partnership, we are not only creating power lines and economic infrastructure but also accelerating Nepal’s long-term growth. The MCC compact is a cornerstone of cooperation between Nepal and the United States. We’re proud to be moving forward together to benefit all citizens of Nepal.”
