Kathmandu, Oct 26: Nepal has posted a trade deficit of approximately Rs 400 billion in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025/26).
According to the Department of Customs, the country’s total imports during the period from July 17 to October 17 amounted to Rs 468.83 billion, while total exports stood at Rs 72.78 billion.
By the end of Ashoj (October 17), the nation’s total foreign trade reached Rs 541.86 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of Rs 395.3 billion.
During the review period, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 258.88 billion from neighboring India, while exporting goods worth Rs 5.91 billion to the southern neighbor — leading to a trade deficit of Rs 252.97 billion.
Similarly, Nepal’s trade deficit with China stood at Rs 104.7 billion, as imports from China totaled Rs 104.89 billion, while exports were limited to Rs 186.4 million.
Meanwhile, Nepal recorded a trade surplus with several European countries, including Denmark, Germany, Romania, Sweden, and Lebanon. The largest surplus was observed with Denmark, where imports amounted to Rs 40.1 million and exports reached Rs 289.9 million, resulting in a surplus of Rs 249.8 million.
Petroleum products remained Nepal’s top import items during the first quarter. The country imported petrol worth Rs 16.79 billion, diesel worth Rs 20.69 billion, and LPG worth Rs 13.98 billion, according to customs data. #nepal #trade
