Acharya, Bista and Bhandari recommended to National Information Commission



Kathmandu, Nov 5: The selection committee, chaired by Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, has recommended senior journalist Dr Suresh Acharya as the Chief Information Officer of the National Information Commission (NIC).

According to sources, the committee has also recommended Mr Gagan Bista and Durga Bhandari as commissioners for the NIC.

The recommendation committee includes the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mr Prithvi Subba Gurung and the President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), one of the largest umbrella organization of Nepali journalists. The committee will submit their name to the Ministry of Communications. According to the NIC law, the Council of Ministers will appoint NIC officials.

Acharya is the former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ). Bista was the former President of Press Chautari Nepal and currently secretary of UML’s Publicity Department. Bhandari, who has an advocacy background, was earlier a member of the Press Council.
