Burnley taken over by US investment group

WASHINGTON, Jan 1 (Xinhua): English Premier League side Burnley confirmed on Thursday that Velocity Sports Partners, the sports investment arm of US firm ALK Capital, has acquired majority shareholding in the club.

ALK Capital, headed by former MLS club Real Salt Lake CEO Alan Pace, now holds a controlling 84% stake in the northwest English club and the deal has been ratified by the Premier League.

“We need time to get in and understand what their needs are, what we’re planning for and what the decisions were that they’ve taken so far and where they desire to go but we are fully prepared to back the manager,” Pace said.

Burnley coach Sean Dyche has lamented that lack of support in recent transfer windows and was critical of the way some players were allowed to leave after their contracts ran out last season.

Burnley is in 16th place in the league and will host Fulham next on Sunday.
