Candidates filed nomination for TAAN leadership



KATHMANDU: Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), the umbrella organization of mountain tourism professionals, has registered the nomination of candidates for the elections to be held on July 15, 2022.

Officers and members along with the chairman were nominated today at TAAN Secretariat in Maligaon, Kathmandu. A business group with two panels and an independent candidate have been vying for TAAN leadership.

Nil Hari Bastola has registered his candidacy for the post of President. It is said that another candidate for the president, Kamal Sapkota, will register candidacy with a panel, while Bodhraj Bhandari will contest as an independent candidate.

From the Bastola panel, Krishna Prasad Dahal is the senior vice president, Pradeep Pandit is the first vice president, Dhan Bahadur Gurung is the second vice president, Binod Sapkota (Babu) is the general secretary, Homanath Bhattarai is the secretary, Purushottam Timilsina is the treasurer, and Chingdorshi Sherpa is the co-treasurer.

Similarly, Ram Prasad Banjara, Raju Aryal, Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari, Kumar Lama, Navinath Devkota, Subas Bhandari, Lakpa Dorje Sherpa, Hem Bahadur Karki and Sajna Tripathi have filed candidacy as female members.

A total of 1,250 voters have arrived for the voting for the 44th General Assembly of TAAN and the election of the new working committee. According to the election schedule, the nomination of candidates will be held today from 11 am to 3 pm.
The list of candidates for the first phase will be published by 5 pm today.

Accordig to sources, presidential candidate Bastola is close to Nepali Congress, while Sapkota, a businessman, is close to CPN (Maoist Centre) and Bhandari as independent candidates.

Seventeen officials and members, including the President, will be elected.
