KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi has called on Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Ambassador Yanqi had reached Khumaltar, residence of Prachanda, on Wednesday morning.

It is said that they discussed the recent political situation including the subject of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Nepal. Preparations are underway for Foreign Minister Wang’s visit to Nepal.

According to a source close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit will take place soon even though the date of the visit has not been decided yet. On Monday, Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka also informed that a high level visit would be made to Nepal soon.

After the approval of US$ 500 million USA grant aid- Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact– from Parliament, Government of China was publicly criticising the aid (MCC) mainly due to it’s political and strategic alliance. Aiming at the MCC, China welcomed the contribution of the international community for the development of Nepal and the improvement of people’s lives, but said that such assistance should be in line with the aspirations of the Nepali people without political conditions.

The United States has warned that it will review Nepal-US relations if the MCC Compact is not passed by parliament by February 28, saying China’s foreign ministry is opposed to “forced diplomacy.”
