Sarlahi, Feb 1: Various social organizations including the Non-Governmental Organizations Federation Nepal Sarlahi chapter have urged the government to maintain the legal age for marriage at 20 years.
It may be noted that the government has tabled an ordinance in the parliament to reduce the legal limit from existing 20 to 18 years.
Representatives of 15 community-based organizations in Sarlahi have jointly urged the government to withdraw the provision and keep the minimum age for marriage at 20 years.
A team led by Laxmi Singh, central member NGO Federation Nepal, submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office, Sarlahi, drawing the attention of the government towards the matter.
A joint press release issued by the organisation states that child marriage has a negative impact on the physical, mental and social lives of children as well as of adolescents. #marriage #nepal
