CPN UML presents 751 plans and demands to the government

Kathmandu, Jan 23: The Chairman of the main opposition party CPN (UML) KP Sharma Oli has today submitted to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ an attention letter containing 751 plans and programs along with the development prospects and challenges of the central hill region.

During the ‘Sankalpa Yatra’ tour conducted by UML from last Mangsir 14 to Poush 1, 2080BS from Jhulaghat in the Far West to Chiwabhanjyang in the Far East, the demands, memorandums and suggestions received from the people and the problems encountered were written down and handed over to the government by the party. The UML has drawn the attention of the government regarding the updated status of the Pushpalal (Mid-Hill) road and the need for re-drawing and improvement in some places. Meanwhile, it has been seen that the Mid-Hill region has prioritized 157 road-related demands and 25 motorable bridges.

The suggestions include roads, education, tourism, agriculture and fruits, health, industry, energy, motorable bridges, irrigation, building construction, cultural preservation and promotion, land management, settlement development, sports, caste discrimination, untouchability and violence, water management and resources. The main demands are for protection, reconstruction and restoration in earthquake-affected areas, construction of tunnels, erosion control and embankment construction.

UML’s Central Publicity and Publication Department has drawn the government’s attention to the fact that migration to the hill area villages has emerged as a major challenge, some settlements are falling apart, some schools are closing down due to lack of students, agricultural land is becoming barren, and in some places there is a lack of young people to take care of the elderly or go to funeral procession.

Similarly, the lack of market, fair price and protection for the produced goods has also become the cause of migration, the party said to prevent the uncontrolled import of agricultural products from foreign countries, control exploitation of middlemen, management of capital and technology, crop insurance, product support price and market arrangements to protect the interests of farmers.

Mentioning that the work of reconstruction and rehabilitation after the earthquake that occurred in Jajarkot and Rukum-West  is very slow and disappointing, UML has analyzed that more than 34 earthquake victims died with cold due to lack of temporary housing and warm clothes as a shameful situation. The party has requested the government to protect the lives of the citizens by providing immediate relief for temporary housing and ensuring temporary housing for the victims. #Nepal
