‘Dragon Boat Race Festival’ begins in Pokhara

Pokhara, June 23: Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kirati has said that the relationship between Nepal and China is historic. He said that the festival has added another brick to the relationship between the two countries.

While inaugurating the Nepal-China friendship ‘Dragon Boat Race Festival’ which started today in Pokhara under the auspices of the Nepal Tourism Board, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Pokhara metropolis, he said that the relationship has been harmonious for decades.

Chan Song, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, said that Nepal and China have had economic, social and cultural relations for a long time and expressed the belief that the ‘Dragon Boat Race Festival’ will further strengthen the mutual relations and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, said that they have taken the ‘Dragon Boat Race Festival’ in Pokhara as important and expressed the belief that it will increase the arrival of Chinese tourists in Pokhara in the coming days.

Dhananjaya Regmi, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board, said that the festival will help not only Pokhara but also the tourism of Nepal as a whole.

Pomnarayan Shrestha, chairman of the Pokhara Tourism Council, said that this type of event, which was organized for the first time in Nepal, will add a new dimension to tourism as a whole and will help make Pokhara’s tourism more sustainable.

The boat race event will last for 2 days.

In the ‘Dragon Boat Race’, a person sits in front of a boat made to look like a dragon and plays a drum. 10 people row the boat on the same drum beat and one person sitting at the tail adjusts the direction of the boat.
