KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has apprised the Bagmati Province Assembly of the split of major opposition CPN (UML) into CPN (Unified Socialist).
A team led by Bagmati Province Assembly member and CPN (Unified Socialist) central member Rajendra Prasad Pande registered the Commission’s letter on this matter at the secretariat of the Bagmati Province Assembly on Sunday.
A total of 13 Bagmati Province Assembly members elected from CPN (UML) had chosen CPN (Unified Socialist), it was informed to the secretariat in the letter.
The CPN (Unified Socialist) was formed as per the Political Parties Act-2073 (second amendment ordinance-2078 BS), Regulation related to the political parties-2074 BS (second amendment ordinance-2078 BS’s rule no 5), according to the Commission.
The Commission also made it clear that the members of Bagmati Province Assembly choosing CPN (Unified Socialist) shall not be considered the lawmakers quitting the party as per Clause 33 (2A) of Political Parties Act-2073 (second amendment ordinance 2078 BS).
With the enlisting of a new political parties in the Bagmati Province Assembly, the number of political parties representing in the Assembly have reached 7.
CPN (UML) has been the biggest party with 43 members while CPN (Maoist Centre) has 23 members.
Nepali Congress with 22 members is the third largest party. The newly formed party- CPN (Unified Socialist) is the fourth one in the Assembly with 13 members.
Bibekshil Sajha has become the fifth political party with 3 members and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Rastriya Prajatantra party has two members each.
