Flood washed away 10 houses, police station and bridge in Mustang



Mustang, Aug 14: At least ten houses, a police station and a bridge were swept away by floods in Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-4 Kagbeni of Mustang on Sunday evening.

Kagbeni, a religious place which is also the center of the rural municipality, was damaged by the flood from Kagkhola at 8 pm. Rinjin Gurung, Chairman of Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality, said that the flood washed away 10 houses/hotels, a police station, a motorable bridge under construction on the Jomsom-Korla road, a pedestrian bridge, two vehicles and three electric poles.

“After getting the information about the flooding, the people were evacuated so that there was no human loss”, he said, “Dharamshala in Kagbeni was buried by the flood.” The flood has entered the settlement and it has become a mess. Kagkhola flowing from Muktinath is in the middle of Kagbeni.

Chief District Officer Anup KC said that the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel, people’s representatives were involved in the search and rescue. Due to the flood in Pandakhola, it is difficult for security personnel to reach Kagbeni from Jomsom. Kagbeni has blocked the road to Upper Mustang.

The electricity supply has been disrupted due to the fall of the electric pole. It has been raining continuously in Mustang since two days. Due to the rain, the flood level has also increased in other rivers of Mustang.

The meteorological station at Jomsom Airport in Mustang has measured 25.8 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
