Kathmandu, Sept 18: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to immediately arrest and take action against those involved in arson, looting, and vandalism of industries during the recent Gen-Z Movement.
On Wednesday afternoon, an FNCCI delegation led by President Chandra Prasad Dhakal inspected properties damaged during the protests, including the Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Kantipur Media, and the residence of Upendra Mahato.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, President Dhakal called for prompt action against those responsible for the arson, looting, and vandalism of industries. He noted that private enterprises have repeatedly suffered serious losses during movements in the country and urged the government to ensure adequate security arrangements to prevent such incidents.
Dhakal stressed that unless the state can guarantee security for industries and businesses, Nepal will be unable to attract foreign investment. He said, “Security assurances — both from the government and in public perception — are extremely important. Until there is a clear assurance of safety, there is no possibility of investment. Therefore, the recent arson and vandalism must be investigated impartially, and those who intentionally carried out these acts should be punished. Since 1990, all kinds of movements have targeted the private sector.”

The FNCCI also reiterated its concern that the government has failed to create a suitable environment for investment and operation of businesses, but expressed confidence that the private sector would move forward with even greater determination.
During the inspection, FNCCI’s immediate past president Shekhar Golchha, senior vice-president Anjan Shrestha, vice-presidents Surkrishna Vaidya, Hemraj Dhakal, and Jyotsna Shrestha, treasurer Bharat Raj Acharya, along with other members of the federation, met with businessman Upendra Mahato, Kantipur Media Group Chair Kailash Sirohiya, Bhatbhateni Supermarket Chair Min Bahadur Gurung, and Hilton owner to learn about the incidents and the extent of the damage. #nepal #fncci #GenZ
